Technology & Innovation

At the heart of Novano is Enhanced Fiber Composite (EFC), a proprietary material technology developed to overcome the limitations of traditional timber. Through True Engineering, we combine natural fibers with advanced polymer science to create a durable, wood-free material built for demanding exterior environments. This is Nature Reinvented, where natural innovation and material performance come together to deliver exceptional durability, dimensional stability, and long-term weather resistance.

The Story Behind Enhanced Fiber Composite

A Better Material Begins With a Better Question. More than twenty years ago, a simple question sparked the development of what would eventually become Enhanced Fiber Composite (EFC): Could a material capture the beauty of wood without inheriting its weaknesses?

At the time, there was no established category for what the team hoped to create. There was only a belief that exterior materials could perform better. Years of experimentation followed. Natural fibers, polymer systems, manufacturing processes, and material formulations were tested and refined in search of a solution that could withstand real-world outdoor conditions while maintaining the warmth and character that made wood desirable in the first place.

The result was not an imitation of wood. It was the beginning of an entirely new material technology.

The search for a better exterior material led to extensive experimentation with natural fibers including wood flour, coconut fiber, peanut shells, and straw.

While each material showed potential, none delivered the balance of durability, dimensional stability, weather resistance, and manufacturability required for demanding exterior applications.

The breakthrough came through rice husk. Often considered agricultural waste, rice husk revealed unique performance characteristics when incorporated into a carefully engineered composite system. Its naturally high silica content contributed hardness and durability, helping form the foundation of what would become Enhanced Fiber Composite technology.

Decades of real-world installations have helped validate the long-term performance of Enhanced Fiber Composite technology. From marine environments in Hong Kong to landmark destinations such as Victoria Peak, EFC continues to demonstrate durability under demanding outdoor conditions.

Every installation became an opportunity to learn. Real-world exposure provided insights that could never be replicated entirely in a laboratory. Over time, formulations were refined, manufacturing processes evolved, and performance characteristics continued to improve through decades of observation and experience.

After years of proven material performance, a new realization emerged: Even the best material can only perform as well as the system surrounding it.

As the technology was adopted across more projects and applications, it became clear that product design, installation systems, accessories, and technical support all play an important role in long-term project success.

This realization became the foundation for Novano. Built on decades of Enhanced Fiber Composite innovation, Novano combines advanced material technology, engineered product design, integrated installation systems, and technical expertise into a complete exterior solution for facades, siding, decking, fencing, soffits, ceiling systems, and architectural applications.

Enhanced Fiber Composite is designed to combine the natural appearance of wood with the durability, stability, and weather resistance required for demanding exterior environments.

Unlike traditional timber, EFC is engineered to resist moisture, termites, rot, and long-term weathering while maintaining dimensional stability and a refined architectural appearance.

The result is a material designed not simply to look good on installation day, but to continue performing through climate, use, and time.

Looking Forward

More than twenty years after its development began, the vision remains unchanged: to create exterior materials that combine the natural beauty of wood with the durability modern construction demands.

Through Novano’s complete exterior systems, Enhanced Fiber Composite technology continues to evolve while helping architects, builders, and developers build with greater confidence.

Naturally Beautiful. Durable on Purpose.

Novano: The New Benchmark

In demanding tropical environments defined by intense sun and heavy rainfall, traditional materials face inherent biological failures. Novano’s EFC technology eliminates these trade-offs, delivering a next-generation composite that outperforms both natural timber and first-generation WPCs commonly used across Asia.

By merging natural innovation with technical precision, we provide a superior total value: the organic aesthetic of wood with the indestructible performance required for modern urban landscape.

Our Client Review

“We selected Novano cladding for its timber appearance, but the real advantage is the minimal maintenance. After a year in a tropical environment, the colour hasn’t changed at all. It was a very practical decision.”

“Used Novano decking in a high-traffic area. Scratches are barely visible thanks to the consistent core colour. It performs exactly as specified.”

“As a Singapore-based architect, Novano gave us the timber aesthetic our client wanted without the durability risks of wood. The material performs extremely well in our tropical climate, and the sustainability documentation made specification seamless.”
