FAQs
Usage & Installation
Can Novano be installed like traditional wood materials?
Yes. Novano can be cut, drilled, milled, sanded, glued, and screwed using standard woodworking tools. However, proper installation techniques must be followed, including correct substructure preparation, ventilation gaps, and thermal expansion allowances as outlined in the Novano Installation Guides.
2. Is it difficult to install Novano?
No. Novano installs similarly to conventional cladding, siding, and decking systems. With proper fixing methods and spacing guidelines, installation is straightforward for experienced contractors.
3. Is Novano supplied pre-finished?
Novano products are available either unfinished or pre-finished (recommended). Factory pre-finishing ensures consistent colour application and reduces on-site finishing time. We also offer custom colour and finish options based on project requirements, allowing clients to achieve specific aesthetic goals while maintaining long-term performance standards.
4. How is the surface of Novano treated?
Novano surfaces are finished using proprietary colour technologies, including ArmorToneβ’ for decking and advanced PPG coating technology for siding applications. The system consists of engineered stain and protective coating layers designed to enhance colour durability, surface protection, and long-term exterior performance.
Material Performance
5. What is Novano made of, and why is it different from wood or traditional composites?
Novano is an advanced biosourced Enhanced Fiber Composite (EFC) material engineered for demanding tropical environments across Asia. It contains no traditional timber components, making it highly resistant to moisture, rot, insects, cracking, and long-term weathering while maintaining the natural appearance and texture of wood.
6. What makes Novano so durable?
Its fibre-reinforced composite structure provides excellent dimensional stability and long-term durability. Unlike traditional wood, Novano does not rot, splinter, or suffer insect damage.
7. How durable is Novano under long-term weather exposure?
Novano is engineered for demanding tropical environments with high humidity, heavy rainfall, and intense UV exposure common across Asia. It resists moisture, mould, termites, and UV degradation while maintaining long-term structural stability and surface performance. Minor colour lightening may occur gradually over time and can be refreshed using approved surface systems.
Colour & Surface Protection
8. Will Novano fade or change colour over time?
Novano is engineered for long-term colour stability and does not fade easily. Any gradual lightening may only occur after many years of continuous sun exposure, and the change happens slowly and evenly. If desired, colour can be refreshed or restored using Novano-approved coating systems to maintain its original appearance.
Care & Maintenance
9. Does a Novano require elaborate maintenance?
No. Novano is designed for minimal maintenance. It does not absorb water, chip paint, or crack like timber. Periodic cleaning and basic inspection are sufficient. No special care is required, as its water-resistant and splinter-free structure prevents common timber issues such as fungal growth and insect infestation. For detailed recommendations, please refer to our Care & Maintenance Best Practices Guide.
Safety & Environmental Considerations
10. Is Novano safe for children and pets?
Yes. Novano is completely wood-free and splinter-free, making it safe for children and pets. Its smooth surface prevents splinters and sharp edges, while its durable composite structure is free from harmful chemicals, creating a safe environment for the entire family.
