FAQs
Usage & Installation
1. Can Novano be installed like traditional wood materials?
Yes. Novano can be cut, drilled, milled, sanded, glued, and fastened using standard woodworking tools. However, proper installation practices must be followed, including correct substructure preparation, ventilation gaps, and thermal expansion allowances as outlined in the Novano Installation Guides.
2. Is it difficult to install Novano?
No. Novano installs similarly to conventional cladding, siding, and decking systems. When proper fastening methods and spacing guidelines are followed, installation is straightforward for experienced contractors and installers.
3. Is Novano supplied pre-finished?
Novano products are available either unfinished or pre-finished (recommended). Factory pre-finishing ensures consistent color application and reduces on-site finishing time. Custom color and finish options may also be available depending on project requirements and architectural specifications.
4. How is the surface of Novano treated?
Novano surfaces are finished using our proprietary color coating system, which includes a base primer and a color coating layer. These finishes can be applied at the factory or on-site depending on project specifications.
Material Performance
5. What is Novano made of, and why is it different from wood or traditional composites?
Novano is an advanced bio-based composite material engineered for long-term exterior performance. It contains no timber components, making it highly resistant to moisture, rot, insects, and cracking while maintaining the natural grain appearance of wood.
6. What makes Novano so durable?
Its fiber-reinforced composite structure provides excellent dimensional stability and long-term durability. Unlike traditional wood, Novano does not rot, splinter, or suffer insect damage over time.
7. How durable is Novano under long-term weather exposure?
Novano is engineered to perform across diverse climates throughout the United States, including high heat, seasonal rainfall, snow exposure, and UV radiation. It resists moisture, mold, insects, and UV degradation while maintaining structural stability over time. Minor color lightening may occur after many years but can be refreshed using approved surface coatings.
Color & Surface Protection
8. Will Novano fade or change color over time?
Novano is engineered for long-term color stability and does not fade easily. Any gradual lightening may only occur after extended sun exposure over many years, and the change happens slowly and evenly. If desired, the finish can be refreshed using Novano-approved coating systems to maintain its original appearance.
Care & Maintenance
9. Does Novano require extensive maintenance?
No. Novano is designed for minimal maintenance. It does not absorb water, chip paint, or crack like natural wood. Periodic cleaning and occasional inspection are usually sufficient to maintain its appearance and performance. For detailed guidance, please refer to the Novano Care & Cleaning Guide.
Safety & Environmental Considerations
10. Is Novano safe for children and pets?
Yes. Novano is completely wood-free and splinter-free, making it safe for children and pets. Its smooth yet slip-resistant surface helps reduce the risk of slips while preventing splinters and sharp edges. The durable composite structure is designed to provide a safe environment for residential, hospitality, and public spaces.
